Repeater

Repeater is a device that works at layer 2. Repeater is a device used to amplify signals in a computer network. Repeater will receive signals from a Local Area Network LAN segmentand then transmit back to the same signal strength. In this way the network LAN Local AreaNetwork can be a lot. The use of repeaters between two or more segments require the use of the same physical layer protocol between the cable segments.

Repeater is obsolete connecting device today, Switch is more popular because it is more intelligent. From my understanding, Repeater does not work at Layer 2 because it only repeats the signal to other nodes on the network. Repeater does not filter packets based on their physical addresses. Finally, it works at physical layer of the OSI model
